Team Lead / Associate Director, Business Development Pfizer - Beijing

JOB SUMMARY:

Pfizer China is currently the #1 multinational pharmaceutical company in China - enjoying strong growth and leading market share while contributing significantly to Pfizer’s global business performance. Our China-focused Business Development team is charged with identifying, evaluating, and completing partnerships with other companies and institutions to expand Pfizer pharmaceutical product portfolio in China aligned with Chinese unmet health care needs; enhance Pfizer’s overall commercial capabilities and presence in China; and add incremental value to our business. The team completed a series of important partnerships within the last 3+ years and we are determined to build on this momentum. The Team Lead / Associate Director will manage a group of 5 or more direct reports and be accountable to drive the pursuit of inorganic growth opportunities for our China pharmaceutical business. This could include in-licensing / outsourcing products, acquisitions, and/or joint venture transactions. It is expected that the team will pursue collaborations spanning across diverse segments of the pharmaceutical industry including innovative drugs, vaccines, and generic medicines in a range of therapeutic areas with partners based both inside and outside China. The role will require the demonstrated ability to drive the establishment of new partnerships from beginning to end, leadership & interpersonal skills to successfully manage a Business Development team and effectively collaborate with stakeholders in China and abroad, and a willingness to take on challenges to fully support Pfizer China’s high growth aspirations.



KEY RESULT AREAS & JOB ACTIVITIES /TASKS:

Ø Work with Pfizer China management, strategy, and business unit teams to set business development priorities and action plans designed to capture the most strategic growth opportunities and to maximize profitability in line with Pfizer (China)’s strategy.

Ø Build key relationships and networks amongst potential targets/partners/advisors in and outside of China for the benefit of business objectives; support relationship management with existing partners to minimize/resolve any disputes.

Ø Proactively identify business development opportunities through broad sourcing strategies both in the domestic market and globally.

Ø Evaluate & prioritize opportunities through development of robust & compelling business cases in collaboration with cross-functional teams, which drive gated go/no-go decisions on partnerships.

Ø Drive and coordinate all activities necessary to evaluate and complete transactions, including portfolio analysis, financial analysis, due diligence, legal contracts, and other activities.

Ø Negotiate deal parameters / contract terms with partners to ensure proposed transactions create value for Pfizer.

Ø Lead and develop a team of industry leading Business Development professionals and effectively manage overall department activity.

Desired Skills & Experience

REQUIREMENTS:

Ø At least 10 years business experience in sales & marketing, strategy, finance, and or business development roles.

Ø At least 5 years experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare industry; Established network and deep knowledge of China market strongly preferred.

Ø Track record of completing successful business development transactions and/or establishing significant business partnerships, including leading negotiations of deal terms/contracts with partners.

Ø Excellent analytical/quantitative skills.

Ø Thorough understanding of business development process including conducting opportunity analysis, technology assessment, due diligence, financial statement analysis, financial valuation and financial modeling/ROI, and legal agreements.

Ø Very strong interpersonal and networking skills.

Ø Excellent strategic thinking, leadership and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work and lead across functional teams.

Ø Mature, independent, self-starter, entrepreneurial.

Ø Excellent written and oral communication in Mandarin and English.

Ø Willing to travel frequently throughout China to meet position objectives.

Ø MBA degree or similar preferred.
