Job description
As our Merchandise Planning Director for Digital Commerce you will oversee and manage the financial success of Categories by meeting or exceeding the sales, gross margin, GMROI and inventory turn goals. You'll lead a team through the creation of merchandise plans from the SKU level up to top line financial goals. You'll lead in the evolution and creation of the vertical retail process model by challenging the status quo. You'll coach and develop your team to maximize their performance and groom them for advancement. You will develop financial strategies and create comprehensive style level financial plans for Nike.com and NIKEiD pre-season sales, gross margin and inventory for assigned categories that support product strategies.


You'll create and define goals for categories on a rolling 19 month timeline. You'll provide strategic financial direction, analysis and insight to Business Unit, Category and Business Planning partners to maximize sales, inventory, and margin for the Nike.com and NIKEiD business. You'll establish clear merchandise plans that tell a story for the season and drives merchandising to create a line grounded in profitability and consumer centric offering. You'll reconcile top-down to bottom-up division/department plans. In addition, you'll collaborate with the Merchandising team to develop and communicate a comprehensive strategy that aligns future financial and product opportunities by division and department. Your role will include driving category level information and analyzing actual sales results to plan, in addition to forecasting in-season sales and inventories on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. You will identify risks and opportunities to business and recommend strategies to achieve financial goals, and will develop and communicate markdown recommendations and strategies.



As a manager, you'll coach, train mentor and develop your team through effective utilization of performance management tools (CFE) and the philosophies of NIKE to inspire, motivate, recognize and reward both individual and team efforts. You'll develop a team structure that facilitates and maximizes individual and team performance, while supporting and fostering an open and inclusive environment that embraces diversity. You'll lead a culture that encourages accountability and drives results. You will manage and support the career development process of our Digital Merchandise Planners to ensure job satisfaction, retention and future talent development.



You'll act as a financial and category ambassador for retail sharing key strategies, business results and retail realities, and will utilize retail expertise, Nike Brand, marketplace data, industry news and internal business to drive smart financial risks while capturing volume and business needs. In addition, you'll develop and foster relationships that allow retail to drive the financial process with Retail at starting gates. You'll communicate and present financial plans, forecasts and strategies in sync with the needs and process of the category game plan as well as retail needs. You'll collaborate with all cross functional peers to ensure consistency of information, shared best-practices and common systems knowledge. In addition, you'll lead monthly Business Strategy meetings with cross functional teams.

Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements for this position include:

• Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; two additional years of experience is generally accepted in lieu of degree level education (applies to 4-year Degree or greater)

• 8 years of retail experience in driving total financial plans across all retail metrics for a product and/or category line

• Digital commerce experience preferred

• Experience in Merchandise Planning, Company Planning, Allocation, Stores and/or Merchandising

• Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team with 2 or more direct reports, including performance review responsibility

• Strong understanding and application of managerial concepts and techniques in areas such as project/change management, idea creation, employee development, coaching and cross-team effectiveness

• Demonstrated leadership in fostering continuous learning, empowerment, involvement, and opportunities

• Strong knowledge of cross team calibration

• Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills

• Proficient financial skills and knowledge, including ability to optimize resources and to create profitability

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Project planning experience, including gathering business requirements, business process design and testing desired

• Ability to effectively elevate strategic concerns to senior management in a timely and accurate manner

• Strong motivation skills

• Travel up to 20% or as needed.
