Job Description
General Motors Company is seeking a licensed attorney with at least seven years experience practicing customs law. This position will be based in Shanghai, China.The Executive selected to be the Regional Customs Counsel - International Operations will oversee the handling of all customs controversies at the company's business units in Asia.They will lead regional and global customs projects, provide analysis of applicable laws and regulations, identify planning opportunities, assess risks, develop plans and see projects through to implementation.In addition, the Regional Customs Counsel will advocate in government and industry forums for government decisions and rules beneficial to the company, including the preparation of written briefs, and comments on proposed laws, regulations and administrative rules in jurisdictions throughout the IO region and elsewhere.Regional Customs Counsel will oversee the work of in-house and outside counsel located in business units throughout the region. Regional Customs Counsel will also interact frequently with senior regional and global corporate leadership.
Desired Skills & Experience
Required Skills:
-Minimum seven years experience practicing customs and trade law.
-Candidates should have substantial experienced in all areas of Customs law, including specific expertise in valuation, classification, admissibility and entry, origin, trade programs.
-Candidates should have substantial experience developing responses to complicated legal issues, managing cases and counseling business units in the development and implementation of cross border activities.
-Experience in Asian nations or India preferred.
Required Educational Background:Diploma in Law
Travel Requirement:Frequent Regional travel throughout Asia- Pacific (40 - 50% of the working time) including India, Russia, Australia, Korea, etc.Periodic travel to North America
