Job description
The Director of Production is responsible for developing the China Production Team from a blank slate – infrastructure, operations, hiring, budgeting and creative development. They possess the knowledge and expertise to define a creative strategy, establish new goals and develop a new team capable of executing on all. They will implement new processes and workflows, to scale the Production Team efficiently and effectively, specific to the challenges of their region and market. The Director will oversee their team’s development, productivity plan, business strategy and long-term growth. A people and project manager, strategist and business developer. The visionary and business leader of the China Production Team.
What You Will Do
Hires, leads, motivates a developing team of Producers, Editors, Filmers and Content Managers, as well as a support staff focused on Operations and network of freelancers across China.
Provides visionary leadership and management to Production staff, and will be held accountable for their performance and output.
Establishes a growth strategy for Production team that will involve:
Training local content creators, distributors, athletes and key influencers
Sourcing content from local Users
Establishing a network of freelance filmmakers
Building relationships with local production companies and agencies
Actively leads strategic discussions, brainstorming and project development, specific to the local audience, culture, trends and market needs.
Supervises action plans for improving team effectiveness, efficiencies and productivity.
Allocates/develops Budget and holds Producers accountable.
Develops Standard Operating Procedure for productions and internal workflows, in alignment with HQ yet specific to regional needs.
Establishes workflow for production proposals and new concepts to be pitched.
Determines Key Performance Indicators for China Production, alongside HQ Supervising Producer, and scales according to team growth and trajectory.
Reviews, evaluates and approves all legal agreements specific to China Production, before final approval from Head of Production at HQ.
Traffics new project requests and opportunities, in particular the initiatives not driven by the Entertainment Division.
Green-lights new projects and productions, in collaboration with HQ and local Marketing team.
Has finger on the pulse of every production and partnership of China Production team.
Initiates larger-scale, high-exposure projects to meet broad business objectives and needs.
Works closely with China Director of Marketing and China Director of Sales, to define the division of labor and priorities among Marketing, Sales and Entertainment.
Collaborates cross-functionally with all divisions of GoPro – from Marketing, Business Development, Engineering and Sales.
Will support the initial projects and team development in other APAC markets – Japan and Korea.
Skills We’re Stoked About
8+ years of management experience.
8+ years of production experience.
5+ years of experience in globally recognized in-line brands.
5+ years of experience working the China/APAC region.

Deep knowledge and experience in contract negotiations.

Proven track record for managing a highly creative, energetic and fast-paced team of creatives and producers.
Has thorough knowledge in defining audiences and a programming strategy, to meet the needs of the local region.

Must speak English fluently, as well as Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Ideally some familiarity with Japanese and/or Korean.
This role is based in Shanghai, China. Significant travel required throughout APAC and to the U.S.
