Director - Import Buying - PayPal - Shanghai


Job description
The primary responsibility of the Head of Import Buying is to identify new opportunities to drive profitable growth of PayPal China's Import Buying business. The incumbent will be responsible for developing a clear, compelling and innovative expansion plan for the Import Buying business and to deliver results by executing against plan. He / she is tasked with achieving the key business metrics of active domestic consumers as well as transaction per active merchant.
This position will require a good understanding of Market trends and Consumer behaviour both in the domestic Chinese and international arena, and eCommerce industry. The Head of Import Buying will be a key member of the leadership team and a pioneering member of the China Domestic Business team. His / her responsibilities will be as follows:


Plan & Strategy Development - Develop and maintain the growth plan and model for the China Import Buying business that leverages PayPal's advantages in the marketplace and is broadly supported by:

Insightful knowledge about the market, customers, competitors and the regulatory environment to detect emerging trends and translating them into actionable insights.
Driving the vision and strategy for the PayPal Import Buying business with senior executives and peers. Ensuring that the plan is consistent with the overall corporate strategy.
Responsible to define the prioritization of the initiatives as well as commitment of resources and investments against them
Collaborating to unlock knowledge and experiences from partners and international colleagues and stakeholders.
Communicating clear and compelling business development priorities.
Garnering cross-functional resources to enable the execution of the plan.
Identifying and / or analyzing feasibility of new business opportunities.

Partner & Relationship Management - Develop relationships that create value for new and existing Consumers and global Merchants by:

Architecting and executing high level partner development plan with commercial, regulatory and other strategically relevant ecosystem partners.
Maintaining a good understanding of the external environment to anticipate changes or opportunities that can impact the business
Developing deep understanding of customer and partner businesses and innovative and unique solutions that create "win-win" situations.
Opening new doors, corridors, verticals and other opportunities

Program Management

Build hypothesis by converting business questions into analytical problems and implementable analysis.
Work closely with business partners to challenge, design, and estimate potential benefit and track business impact of strategies, decisions and execution to drive key business performance metrics.
Identify country, merchant and consumer specific opportunities to increase import buying business, as well as consumer acquisition and engagement. Work with partners to implement test and learn to know what works and what does not.
Lead/support merchant/consumer related projects and execution in a "hands-on" fashion and facilitate cross-functional teams and discussion.
Serve as Project Manager to define, establish and communicate detailed project plan together with agreed timelines, critical milestones, interdependencies and risks to the project and leadership teams.
Expected to drive development of analytical insights and tracking of ongoing portfolio and initiative performance
Remaining diligently and relentlessly focused on delivering the planned results, including closely monitoring performance and implementing timely, effective corrective actions when necessary.
Liaise with regional Import Buying Program Lead to drive initiatives across the PayPal businesses in other regions
Define the marketing objectives/briefs and partner with the marketing leader to achieve desired outcome

15+ years' experience in Consulting, Marketing and / or Business Development within the Online, Hi-Tech, Payments or Banking industry.
Experience in Business / General Management or P&L responsibility is required, with strong track record of execution and delivering results.
Experience in Consulting in 1st tier strategy consulting firms and relevant experience in business analysis and advisory / consulting is highly preferred.
Proven track record in strategic formulation and execution of strategy.
The individual must have a good understanding of the China market and eCommerce industry trends.
Consultative selling abilities, marketing premium-priced services to entrepreneurs, executives and sophisticated Buyers / Customers and an understanding of how to speak with impact to each group is important.
Experienced in statistical analysis tools, qualitative and quantitative methods, Market Research, customer interviews, focus groups, and surveys.
Experienced working in ideally a small, start up, hands-on environment.
Able to work effectively in and across a highly matrix environment.
Must be confident and passionate, as well as a highly articulate and engaged communicator / presenter. The individual will be a key internal representative and external speaker at customer / industry events and media interviews etc.
