Job description
The Public Relations Director will play a key role in driving positive media coverage and engagement with Shanghai Disney Resort product, delivering credible, independent third-party endorsement of the experience and the Disney brand. In addition, this position will have responsibility for content generation and publishing for media and consumer audiences, as well as management of strategic PR plans that support Marketing goals.
This position will report to SHDR Director of Marketing, with overall leadership from Shanghai Disney Resort Vice President of Marketing, with liaison and segment support from Global VP, Public Relations. Position will be based in Shanghai.
Managing direct reports along with heavy liaison with segment partners and agencies along with individual media outlets will be required to successfully deliver the work scope.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Director of Marketing to further develop a PR Strategy that increases awareness and understanding of SHDR, both in the Shanghai market and targeted markets in Asia.
• Oversee management of strategic PR plans that support Marketing goals, managing investment allocation and partnering with third party agencies to accomplish the work.
• Create and publish compelling content tied to SHDR Marketing goals and current events for media and consumer audiences
• Work closely with Public Affairs partners to plan media coverage, align calendars and manage issues that may arise
• Oversee teams and agency that will foster relationships with social, online, print and broadcast media
• Represent Shanghai Disney Resort and build relationships with top media influencers at major media outlets
• Manage projects that will bring media to SHDR.
• Strong knowledge of the media, social and key opinion leader landscape in China. Demonstrated success working with leading media outlets in driving news media coverage for large multi-national brand or via agency role. Competent at developing key strategies to drive earned media coverage. Keen relationship builder with solid media relations. Strong leadership skills to drive large scale, complex projects on time and on budget.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 15 years’ working experience in Public Relations; at least 5 years’ experience in management role as a team leader;
• Bachelor degree or above; Master in management is preferred;
• Extensive knowledge of the news media environment within China, including the role of Social media and key opinion leaders. An ability to lead and engage with agency partners to direct the PR strategy for Shanghai Disney Resort.
• Keen project management and planning skills to translate strategic direction, and investment into world class Public Relations. Creative thinking with an ability to connect strategic rationale to media driving ideas, with an understanding of the types of content that will further produce earned media coverage.
• Effectively communicate with Segment partners, leading direct reports and agency teams in the successful delivery of programs.
• Responsible for ensuring team members stay focused on top priorities and deliver their projects on time and on budget. Responsible for driving innovation and creativity with their direct reports and agency, influencing across both the SHDR team and with Segment partners. Leads hiring within the team.
• Significant focus on leading team members and managing agency, providing direction on projects as well as interaction with individual media outlets. Maintains the agency relationship, work scope and accountability, evaluating agency rates and work scope deliverables and providing recommendations to leaders. Responsible for ensuring the Disney brand is protected and enhanced during all media interactions.
• Interact with a variety of internal and external partners to represent Shanghai Disney Resort with media influencers, including editors, publishers, news directors and other top journalists, as well as internal executives from a wide cross section of Disney Parks, including Operations, Entertainment, WDI, and Marketing. Additionally, at times will be called upon to interact with executives at other segments of The Walt Disney Company. Partner hand in hand with VP Public Affairs ensuring a combined vision to both SHDR Steering Committee and JV Partners. On a daily basis influence news media to achieve coverage goals.
• Specialized skill with deep understanding of the ever-shifting news environment and media partner landscape. Solid ability to successfully drive agency relationship to deliver optimal coverage results of Shanghai Disney Resort that enable brand building, to deepen awareness and understanding of the Park.
